Sweden Broadband Award 2011

för en bredbandsinsats som har gynnat den svenska bredbandsutvecklingen har tilldelats Netadmin

2004 grundades Netadmin som ett självständigt bolag. Idag finns Netadmin i 15 länder och har en ledande marknadsposition i Norden med en marknadsandel på 60 % i Sverige. I de nät som idag har stöd av Netadmin finns mer än 1 miljon slutkunder.

Ett särskilt hedersomnämnande har också tilldelats Bredbandsforum för sina insatser att stödja och samordna den svenska bredbandsutvecklingen.

I år delades utmärkelserna ut i samband med Svenska Stadsnätsföreningens Höstkonferens
den 11 oktober, 2011 i Stockholm. Juryn bestod av representanter för Sweden Broadband Alliance och Svenska Stadsnätsföreningen.

Europe to invest €9.2 billion in broadband

Talking in Brussels today at The Digital Agenda Summit, Neelie Kroes, European Commissioner for Digital Agenda, said that broadband development could help boost the European economy by over one trillion euros in ten years, if we get it right. To help this go forward she promised European funding of €9.2 billion to help expand investment in broadband networks. €6.4 billion of this will be used for broadband infrastructure directly, and it’s thought that this investment could generate up to €100 billion of further investment, a third of what it is thought to cost to meet Euopean targets.

Trafikverket ICT säljs

Den planerade försäljningen av Trafikverket ICT bör bli en miljardaffär för ägaren Trafikverket, som i fredags presenterade den första delen av en egen utredning om hur man kan öka kapaciteten och punktligheten på järnvägen. I denna plan ingår att man ska spara 11 miljarder kr genom effektivisering av Trafikverket.

Trafikverket ICT förbättrade under förra året sitt resultat med 140 procent till 115 miljoner kr (48 miljoner kr 2009).

Banverket ICT tog förra året över Vägverket IT och bildade Trafikverket ICT, därav ökade verksamhetens omsättning kraftigt till 1 356 miljoner kr (951 miljoner kr) under 2010. Rörelseresultatet ökade till 229 miljoner kr (127 miljoner kr).

Trafikverket ICT:s affärsområde för telekommunikationslösningar, Nät och drift, krympte till en omsättning på 227 miljoner kr (263 miljoner kr) under 2010.

Acreo study socio-economic benefit of broadband.

The value of broadband are discussed, especially when the public sector do invest

Crister Mattsson and Marco Forzati at Acreo have made a study on socio-economic impact of fiber-broadband, especially municipalities.

The study is based on Acreos research projects and Acreos survey to municipalities, city networks and housing organizations

The study shows significant correlations between fiber and socioeconomic development. Fiber is important, but we need more and new ways to measure the value

The hinder to broadband development are not financial or technical but knowledge and information of the value and impact. The best cases are many times based on personal engagement.

The report includes some examples of economic benefit with fiber infrastructure.

The city of Stockholm reduced the cost of communication (telephone, internet and intranet) with 30 % (4,5 mill. euro) after installation of fiber-infrastructure.

The region of Stockholm made a saving of 50 % equal to 6 million euro. Small villages got increased population and the number of enterprises has grown after the fiber came to place. . Housing organizations become more cost-efficient and have reduced the cost for energy.

For the tenants the prices have been dramatically lower and larger freedom of choice.

Enterprises say that fiber is a precondition for their business. At the same time we can see that the understanding of the value differs, 30% of the municipalities have no IT-strategy or ICT-policy.

By tradition fiber investments are evaluated by telecom return of investment calculations that not include the impact on society. We need more and new ways to measure and evaluate the benefit of broadband and fiber.

The conclusions are the fiber are important and do have socioeconomic impact.
